Steven Matz, a left-handed pitcher for the New York Mets, has purchased a $18.3 million condominium at 520 Park Avenue on the Upper East Side from Zeckendorf Development. The deal was brokered by Corcoran Sunshine and Lori Ostrover of Starr Associates LLP served as counsel.

The 4,000 square foot property was sold at a price of $4,575 per square foot, making it one of the most expensive condos sold in the area. The building, designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, features 33 floors and 35 units, with amenities such as a fitness center, pool, and private dining room.

Zeckendorf Development, the seller, is a prominent real estate development firm known for luxury properties such as 15 Central Park West and 520 Park Avenue. The company purchased the site for 520 Park Avenue in 2014 for $70 million and completed the building in 2018.

Steven Matz, a Long Island native, has been with the New York Mets since 2015. He signed a one-year, $5.2 million contract with the team in January 2020. Matz also owns a home in Nashville, Tennessee.

The purchase of this high-end condo by a professional athlete highlights the continued demand for luxury real estate in New York City, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Upper East Side, in particular, has seen a surge in demand for high-end properties in recent years, with new developments such as 520 Park Avenue attracting wealthy buyers from around the world.
